Important Notice – 2018 Lodge Due Increase

Brothers,

I hope everyone is having a good start to this busy holiday season!  Please take a few moments to read the following regarding the due increase for the 2018 lodge year.

As decided on by the current Lodge Executive Board with input from the upcoming board members, the decision to increase the price of dues from $15.00 U.S. Dollars to $20.00 U.S. Dollars was made during a special Lodge Executive Board meeting on November 12, 2017.  The $1.00 service charge to use a debit or credit card will continue to be applied.  The reason for the increase is to cover the increase being imposed upon the lodge by the national office as well as to allow for the increase in financial contribution requirements in the upcoming Journey to Excellence program.  This meeting also served to approve the addition of the 2018 Carolina Indian Seminar registration to be added to the O.A. Registration page on the council website.  Both matters of business were approved during the meeting.  Minutes of the meeting can be found by clicking here.

If you have any questions regarding the decision, please feel free to contact me at via email at gccoleman92@gmail.com or by phone at 803.899.0968.

I would like to thank you all for your understanding of our decision to increase our annual dues and our reasoning behind the increase.

Yours in Continued Service,

Cole Taylor

Hey do you know there is a 100% Brotherhood patch? Here’s how you get it.

(This week we have special contributors from Troop 66, who are working on their Communication Merit Badge-James Laws, Kevin Laws, Gage Herr, and Patrick Green) Did you know there is a special Skyuka Flap for units that have 100% brotherhood? To be 100% Brotherhood all eligible members in your troop/unit  must have brotherhood status at the same time. But it's not permanent. Every time a new member of your troop joins the OA, your 100% Brotherhood goes away until the new ordeals complete their brotherhood. So now that you know what it takes for your troop to be 100% brotherhood, you should encourage your troop to be 100% brotherhood. Once the troop has achieved 100% brotherhood, the scoutmaster must turn in a form to the Lodge Secretary. Here is the link to the form: 100% Brotherhood Conversion Flap Application We would also like to encourage the Skyuka Lodge to have a ceremony to award the patch in front of all the brothers, such as Dinner on Saturday night, to help promote the existence of the 100% Brotherhood patch.

Tools Needed-2017 Summer Ordeal!

For all older brothers, Brotherhood candidates, and Ordeal candidates, make sure you bring work gloves, water bottles, and clothes that you can get dirty!  It would be very helpful if you also bring hand tools as well, such as rakes, shovels, hoes, and clippers.  Make sure they are clearly marked so you don't lose them.

2017 Summer Ordeal, August 4-6, 2017

The registration for the 2017 Summer Ordeal is open.  Be careful when you are registering; there are different options (Ordeal Candidate, Brotherhood Candidate, Old Brother, and an option for a steak dinner for Brotherhood Candidates and Old Brothers on Friday evening). Use this link to take you to the registration page. OA Events Registration Page Don't forget to bring your health forms Friday evening when you register.

Spring Fellowship Set For May 19-21, 2017

BSA - spring-registrationThe Skyuka Spring Fellowship is our first lodge event following the Dixie and is always lots of fun.  It is filled with lots of activities as well as opportunities to provide cheerful service to Camp Bob Hardin as we help get it ready for the hundreds of campers that will arrive in the coming weeks. If you know any scouts or scouters who were unable to attend the Summer Ordeal in 2016, make sure that they are aware of this fellowship as it will be their last opportunity to gain membership in the Order without having to be re-elected. Ordeal candidates can get information about what to bring, how to pack and such by clicking here.  Ordeal Candidates can register for the event by clicking here. Also, if you know of any Ordeal members who are eligible for Brotherhood, be sure to make them aware of the upcoming event as well.  Brotherhood candidates can register for Spring Fellowship by clicking here. We look forward to seeing you ALL at Skyuka Lodge’s Spring Fellowship on May 19th-21nd, 2017 at Camp Bob Hardin.
